TQM - Upside from individual life insurance
TQM’s penetration into individual life insurance will give upside to 2025F earnings. At the same time, on concerns of slower growth in auto insurance renewals in 2025 after a sharp fall in domestic car sales in 2024, we keep our Neutral rating with an unchanged TP of Bt28.
Penetration into individual life insurance. TQM is planning to get into individual life insurance by cross-selling to its existing 3mn customers, planning for Bt2bn in individual life insurance premiums in 2025, which could add ~Bt800mn in revenue (assuming a 40% commission rate on first-year premiums). In view of the currently weak purchasing power, we conservatively factor only minimal revenue from individual life insurance into our forecast, leaving its target as upside. We have raised our 2025F fee & service growth to 9% from 7% (vs. 9% in 2024F), in line with TQM’s target of 5-10%. We expect the addition of individual life insurance to offset the expected slower growth in renewal auto premiums after a 26% fall in domestic car sales in 9M24.
Rising interest burden from bond issuance. Subsidiary Easy Lending is planning to issue its first debenture of up to Bt600mn with 3-year maturity and 4.5% interest rate. We are concerned that this will add an interest burden to Easy Lending. As of 3Q24, loans outstanding totaled Bt1.4bn (0% QoQ, +229% YoY and +132% YTD). In 9M24, it booked new loans of >Bt2bn, 68% insurance premium loans and 32% title loans. Clients’ shifting to the use of its insurance premium loans instead of credit cards to pay for their insurance helps save costs since TQM absorbs the interest charges on the cards for its clients.
Acquisition coming. TQM has another acquisition deal in the pipeline after the acquisition of a 19.43% stake in My Group Intelligent Company Limited (My Group) and a 25% stake in Ngern Rueang Jib Co., Ltd. (JipJip Money) in 3Q24. As owner of the Mysave and Shippop brands, My Group operates over 6,600 logistics service points, which add touchpoints for TQM to tap into customers. JipJip Money is a leading brand specializing in premium consignment services for luxury assets such as high-end bags, watches and jewelry. In 2024, TQM estimates My Group’s earnings at ~Bt70mn (vs. Bt38mn in 2023) and JipJip Money’s at ~Bt20mn (vs. Bt1mn in 2023). We expect profit from affiliates to rise from Bt5mn in 2023 to Bt15mn in 2024 and Bt30mn in 2025.
4Q24F and 2025F outlook. We raise our 2025F by 3% to factor in its penetration into individual life insurance. We now expect 15% growth in 2025F, underpinned by 9% growth in fee & service income, easing cost to income ratio from rising economies of scale and larger profit from affiliates after the two new acquisitions. In 4Q24, we expect earnings to rise 6% YoY and 8% QoQ to Bt230mn, in line with an estimated 11% YoY and 7% QoQ growth in fee & service income.
Maintain Neutral with an unchanged TP. We maintain our Neutral rating with an unchanged TP of Bt28 based on 5.1x PBV (or 17x PE) for 2025F.
Key risks: 1) Premiums may be hit by an uneven economic recovery and slowing car sales, 2) there could be a fall in commission rate from a change in product mix and rising competition and 3) ESG risk on market conduct.
