Daily top picks

Expected to rebound from supports

Technical signals show the SET has entered oversold territory, both 60-min and day timeframe, while there are signs of recovery in Hong Kong and China, leading to positive sentiment toward EMs. The weaker dollar also eased fund outflow, allowing the index to rebound from supports at 1422 and 1410; resistance is at 1440-1445.

Today’s highlights

  • The IMF forecasts Thailand's economic growth at 2.7% this year and 2.9% next year, driven by fiscal stimulus measures, increased public investment and the BoT’s cut of 25 bps in policy interest rate in Oct to stimulate economic activity.
  • The Energy Minister announced plans to reduce electricity rates from Bt4.18 to Bt4.15 per unit for the Jan-Apr 2025 period, aiming to ease cost of living.
  • The Office of Industrial Economics has revised the MPI for 2024 to -1.6%, down from the previous projection of -1% to 0%. This adjustment reflects uncertainty surrounding US economic policies, slowing economic growth at trading partners, tight domestic purchasing power and high household debt and NPLs.
  • EIA reported a 3.3mn bbl increase in gasoline stocks for the week ending Nov 22. Market attention is focused on the upcoming OPEC+ meeting on Dec 1 about potential production adjustments.
  • The PCE Index for October increased 2.3%YoY, in line with market expectations. Core PCE, the Fed's preferred inflation measure, rose 2.8%YoY.
  • US GDP for 3Q24 grew 2.8%QoQ meeting estimates, supported by strong consumer spending and export growth.
  • China has made a response to Trumps tariff proposals that he relates to the fentanyl crisis, saying this is far-fetched and warned that a trade war would negatively impact all parties involved.

Strategy today

In the short term the SET will be range-bound with no new catalyst. The external factors are limited, while funds are expected to continue flowing out from EMs, including Thailand and China, due to the fluctuation of the dollar and uncertainty about Trump’s tariff policies. Domestically, listed companies are in the middle of providing earnings outlooks for 4Q24 and 2025. The market is also looking for additional stimulus from the government. Our strategy is “selective buy”.

Trading today

In the short term the SET is expected to be range-bound with no new catalyst. Funds are expected to flow out of EMs, while at home, companies are holding analyst meetings to provide earnings outlooks and the market is waiting for more stimulus. We recommend “Selective Buy” with four main themes:

  • Stocks expected to benefit from consumption and tourism stimulus and household debt relief measures. Recommend Commerce (CPALL, CPAXT, CRC, HMPRO and TNP), Tourism (AWC, AOT and MINT) and Banking (BBL).
  • Earnings plays: Stocks whose 4Q24 profit is expected to grow YoY and QoQ, and which we tag Outperform – GULF, OSP, CBG, AMATA, AU, TIDLOR and BCP.
  • Stocks with high dividend yield and expected to be targets of the Vayupak and tax-deductible funds (SSF, RMF and ThaiESG) and with following characteristics: dividend yield of at least 3.5%, high SETESG ratings and high CG and earnings expected to grow - BBL, ADVANC and HMPRO
  • For investors who are concerned about tension in the Middle East and want a stock to hedge the risk, we suggest PTTEP, an upstream oil company.

Dailt top picks

AOT: One of our top picks in tourism. Profit is expected to continue growing in tandem with more international passengers. FY2025 profit is expected to grow 18%, based on international passengers of 84mn (+15%). 1QFY25 profit is expected to grow YoY and QoQ as it is the high season for the tourism industry.

GULF: 4Q24 profit is expected to reach another new high, driven by capacity expansion. The stock has catalysts from benefits from the acquisition of INTUCH, which will improve the balance sheet, the upcoming renewable project auction and the onset of the cyclic move down in interest rate.
