3Q25: In line with all estimates
SCGP reported core profit of Bt998mn, flat QoQ but up YoY. Despite lower revenue both QoQ and YoY due to lower packaging paper ASP and lower short fiber pulp & dissolving pulp prices, it was able to manage costs quite well, and gained from its increased stake in Duy Tan as well as Fajar’s debt restructuring. We expect core earnings to soften QoQ in 4Q25 on the usual end-year drop in activities but grow YoY off a low base. There is no change in our 2025-26 forecasts and we maintain our Neutral rating with a mid-2026 TP of Bt17.5, based on 20x PE or -1.5 SD of 3-year mean.
3Q25 net profit. SCGP reported a net profit of Bt953mn in 3Q25, in line with INVX and consensus, with a Bt29mn FX loss and another one-off item of Bt16mn. Core profit stood at Bt998mn, flat QoQ but up 47% YoY. Despite a 4% QoQ and 9% YoY drop in revenue on a dip in packaging selling prices as well as in short fiber pulp and dissolving pulp prices, SCGP managed to effectively control costs for both raw materials (AOCC) and energy coal. Another boost was given by the full-quarter consolidation of the additional 30% stake in Duy Tan acquired last July, coupled with the debt restructuring of Fajar (expected to save Bt250-300mn per year in interest expenses starting from July 2025).
4Q25 earnings outlook. We expect 4Q25 core profit to slip from 2Q25 and 3Q25. Although we anticipate a stable performance in October and November, the long holidays at the end of the year typically result in lower production. SCGP also notes that Fajar, which was targeted to reach breakeven at the net profit level in 4Q25, may not meet that goal and in fact breakeven may not be reached until 1H26, as the selling price of packaging paper is rising more slowly than anticipated. However, EBITDA will remain above breakeven after achieving that status in 2Q25.
Announced downstream M&A as expected. SCGP announced the signing of a conditional share purchase agreement for a 100% stake in PT Prokemas Adhikari Kreasi (MYPAK), a pulp and paper packaging manufacturer in Indonesia, for a ceiling price of Bt956mn. The acquisition will be jointly held by two SCGP subsidiaries: TCGS, a subsidiary of Siam Packaging Group (70% held by SCGP and 30% by Rengo), and Siam Kraft Industry Company (SKIC), a wholly-owned SCGP subsidiary. TCGS and SKIC will hold MYPAK shares in a 60:40 ratio. The deal is expected to be completed in 4Q25. We view this deal positively for SCGP in terms of synergy, as MYPAK is a downstream box manufacturer. This acquisition will increase SCGP's manufacturing integration level in Indonesia to 26% from the current 18%. While the company has not yet closed the deal and therefore cannot disclose the EV/EBITDA multiple, our review of MYPAK's EV/sales ratio suggests it is at 0.54x, which is lower than the industry average of ~0.67x.
9M25 core profit accounted for 78% of estimates, but we leave it unchanged as we expect 4Q25 core earnings to soften QoQ.
Action & recommendation. We maintain our Neutral rating with a mid-2026 TP of Bt17.5, based on 20x PE or -1.5 SD of 3-year mean.
Key risks are a continued slow pace in China’s economy and geopolitical unrest raising coal cost. Key ESG risks are energy management, sustainability products, and high greenhouse gas emissions (E).
