Market today | The SET is expected to slow down to reduce short-term heat, while US bond yield was back to a rise, dimming sentiment. Investors are waiting for the Fed chairman’s speech on Thursday. The short-term upper bound is limited at resistances at 1,424 and 1,430, while supports are at 1,407 and 1,400, which can be used as leading points. Overall, signs are still good for a recovery. | Today’s highlights | • On Nov 10 the Prime Minister is set to clarify the progress of the entire digital wallet project. • The Ministry of Commerce reported that a decrease in inflation to 0.31%, the first decline in 25 months, due to lower energy prices and consumer goods following the government's cost of living reduction measures. • The SEC and SET have introduced measures for IPO stocks to disclose information on major shareholders and financial statements more quickly to aid in investment decisions and protect retail investors from being disadvantaged. Consideration will be given to adjusting the criteria if deemed necessary. • FETCO plans to meet with the Minister of Finance next week to discuss the establishment of a long-term stock savings fund. The president of the brokers' association said it would support savings by Thais and help the government reduce expenses for the elderly. The president of the analysts' association expects this to reduce volatility and stabilize the Thai capital market. • The Fed indicated that a survey found banks in US have tightened lending, while loan demand in all industrial sectors has decreased. • EU composite PMI in Oct dropped to the lowest level since Nov 2020, indicating an increased likelihood of a recession in the Eurozone. • Tesla is preparing to produce a car priced at EUR25,000 (approximately Bt9.55mn), which would be the cheapest EV it has ever produced, compared to the current starting price of the Model 3 at US$38,990 (approximately Bt1.39mn). | Strategy today | Although the SET is likely to continue recover as there is hope the Fed will stop its upward rate cycle, upside is still limited as there is no new catalyst to stimulate investment and at the same time there are risks from the tension in the Middle East and, at home, the release of 3Q23 earnings. Our strategy is selective buy. | Trading today | Weekly portfolio: Although the SET may recover, upside is still limited as there is no new catalyst, the situation in the Middle East needs to be monitored, and 3Q23 earnings are being released. We recommend “selective buy” in themes with specific drivers: 1) Big-cap stocks expected to recover in line with the market; we pick undervalued stocks where prices have entered oversold territory and valuations are not stretched (PER and PBV 2023F are below 5-year average.) – BDMS, CPALL, CPN and MINT. 2) Stocks whose profit is expected to be good through 4Q23 (+YoY and +QoQ) – AP, AOT, BCH, CENTEL and KCE, which has already passed bottom (+QoQ). 3) Speculative stocks expected to benefit from oil price if it rises or stays at the current high level if tension in the Middle East does not escalate (oil price upside between US$5-10/bbl). Recommend trading when Brent is between US$84-94/bbl – BCP and PTTEP. In the medium term we recommend being cautious on stocks that are expected to be affected by El Nino, which will erode purchasing power in the agricultural sector: Finance (MTC, SAWAD), Automotive (SAT, STANLY), Food & Agriculture (CPF GFPT and GFPT) and Beverages (CBG has high sugar cost). | Daily top picks | BEM: Profit is expected to grow strongly to Bt956mn in 3Q23, up 6.2%QoQ and 10.8%YoY, supported by higher expressway traffic volume and more passengers on the MRT. 2023 profit is expected to grow an outstanding 60.6%. BCP: 3Q23 profit is expected to be Bt4.6bn, up 86%YoY and 902%QoQ, supported by higher refinery margin and stock gain; valuation is not expensive with 2023F PER and PBV at 5.3x and 0.8x (-1S.D.), respectively, while 2023 dividend yield is at an interesting level of 5.5%. | Today’s reports | GPSC – 3Q23: Profit surge on better SPP margin KEX – 3Q23: Improving but still not enough TIDLOR – 3Q23: Beat on ECL and NIM; Upgrade |
