Preview 4Q24: YoY, QoQ up, but cut 2025
We forecast OSP’s 4Q24F core profit at Bt692mn (+16.9% YoY and +3% QoQ) backed by strong gross margin overseas and on personal care products offsetting weaker domestic energy drink market share. After a drop in market share to a new low in 2024, OSP is relaunching its flagship M-150 in a Bt10/bottle in only traditional trade in 2025, which will intensify competition, which will make regaining sales and market share lengthy and difficult. We thus downgrade our 2025F core profit by 10.8% to Bt2.88bn and our tactical call to Neutral from Outperform with a new 2025 TP of Bt23 based on -1.5SD to 5-yr PE of 24x.
Lost market share in 2024, hopes to regain with new Bt10/bottle product. In 4Q24, the value of the domestic energy drink market grew 10% YoY, with end-2024 market value growing 6%. The intense competition in the market slashed OSP’s domestic energy drink market share to a new low of 45% in 4Q24, giving an average 2024 share of 45.8%, down from 2023’s 46.6% and missing its 2024 target of a gain of two percentage points. In 2025, OSP targets a domestic energy drink market share of 50%, backed by the relaunch - solely in the traditional trade channel - of its M-150 yellow label priced at Bt10/bottle starting in Feb. We believe this strategy will take at least six months to influence market share; at the same time, the last time its market share was above 50% was in 1Q22, when OSP hadn’t yet raised the selling price on its flagship M-150, making this goal challenging.
4Q24F core profit to grow YoY and QoQ. We forecast OSP’s 4Q24F core profit at Bt692mn (+16.9% YoY and +3% QoQ) backed by total revenue of Bt6.4bn (-2% YoY and +5.9% QoQ), but with a slip in domestic energy drink sales YoY from intense competition in the traditional trade channel while overseas sales in Myanmar, Laos and Indonesia are doing well with double-digit growth YoY. Average gross margin is estimated at 38.4%, a strong increase YoY and QoQ from higher gross margin overseas and on personal care products. We thus maintain our 2024 core profit at Bt3.1bn (+48.5%) with net profit of Bt1.89bn (-21.2%).
Downgrade 2025F. However, we downgrade our 2025F revenue by 5% to Bt27bn (flat YoY), taking into account weak domestic energy drink sales and the lower price for the new product. We adjust average gross margin to 36.8% from 37% on a lower gross margin from the new product, while cost of raw materials is expected to be stable or swing in a narrow range in 2H25, except for sugar, which we expect to come down slightly in 2025. This gives a new 2025 core profit of Bt2.88bn (-7.4%), 10.8% lower than our previous forecast.
Risks and concerns. Factors to monitor are: 1) Domestic energy drink market share in 2025, especially after the launch of the new Bt10/bottle, which we expect to heighten competition. 2) volatile costs for major cost items such as natural gas and sugar, 3) volatility in CLMV market sales volume and monetary policy.
ESG key risk. OSP is assigned an “AA” rating in the SET ESG ratings in 2024, the same as in 2023. OSP aims to reduce energy consumption and CHG emissions sharply, then reduce by 30% by 2030, achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. ESG risk is in the field of product quality management (S) and customer welfare (S).
