Preview 1Q25F: Profit to surge QoQ

OR’s net profit is expected to surge 38% QoQ to Bt4.2bn in 1Q25F (May 8) on stronger mobility and lifestyle segments. We believe OR benefited from the fall in global oil price in 1Q25, reducing pressure on marketing margin and widening aviation fuel margin due to the lag before price adjustment. F&B performance also improved QoQ after it got out of unprofitable businesses in 2024. This has lifted optimism on its earnings outlook, as evidenced by a gain of 19% in share price (-1m), outperforming the SET (-0.4%) and SETENERG (-3.3%). We stay OUTPERFORM with a TP (end-2025) of Bt16.40, based on 8.4x EV EBITDA.

Mobility segment: marketing margin to recover QoQ. Oil sales volume is expected to slip 5% QoQ to 6.7bn liters in 1Q25F, slowing from the record in 4Q24F on seasonality in the retail segment (down 8% QoQ). Commercial sales also fell 3% QoQ, as demand for aviation fuel continued to support overall sales volume. Gross profit/liter is expected to rise 12% QoQ to Bt0.93/liter, including the marginal inventory loss of Bt100mn. Behind this is the one-month lag before aviation fuel price adjustment to spot oil price. Ministry of Energy data suggests average diesel and gasoline marketing margin edged down 0.9% QoQ.

Lifestyle segment: higher EBITDA margin backed by lower F&B loss. We expect the lifestyle segment EBITDA margin to improve to 29% in 1Q25 from 25.5% in 4Q24 after it got out of unprofitable businesses in 2H24, specifically the Texas Chicken franchise. Improved profitability at the new health and wellness business (Found & Found), though still in the red, also supported EBITDA margin in 1Q25 with operating expense controlled and three more outlets opened to give it eight outlets by end-1Q25. Sales volume at Café Amazon is expected to rise 1% QoQ to a record 104mn cups due to seasonal demand and promotions as well as more outlets (+1.7% QoQ). Cups sold/outlet is expected to ease 0.8% QoQ.

Core earnings stable in 2Q25 with stock loss the key risk. While core earnings are expected to be stable QoQ in 2Q25 on stable to slightly lower sales volume for the mobility segment, gross margin/liter (excluding stock loss) will be tied to aviation fuel. We expect sales volume of Café Amazon to rise QoQ due to higher sales during summer in Thailand while EBITDA margin for the lifestyle segment will stay in the normal range of 25-27%. New investment in the F&B business in 2025 to replace Texas Chicken is expected to be announced in 1H25, and could start making profit in 3Q25.

TP of Bt16.4 based on EV/EBITDA of 8.4x. Our TP of Bt16.40 is based on 8.4x EV/EBITDA, a 30% discount to 5-year average EV/EBITDA of 12x, reflecting a conservative gross margin/liter of Bt0.85 vs. LT average of Bt1/liter and lifestyle EBITDA margin at 25% vs. its target 26-28%. TP implies PE (2025F) of 16.7x, below the 3-year average of 24x for 2022-24 and PBV of 1.7x vs. 2022-24 average of 2.2x.

Risk factors: An economic slowdown would erode demand for OR’s oil and non-oil products while oil price volatility may cause more stock losses. Other risks are government intervention in capping retail oil price, particularly diesel, and higher competition and operating cost that cannot be passed on.
