Good earnings growth continuing

After the analyst meeting, we maintain our Outperform on MTC with an unchanged TP of Bt53, backed by expectation of solid 17% earnings growth in 2025, driven by decent loan growth and a gradual ease in credit cost. We cut our credit cost forecast but raise cost of funds to align with guidance.

Guides to better-than-expected credit cost. MTC expects credit cost to fall further to below 2.8% in 2025 from 3.06% in 2024. A 31 bps QoQ fall in 4Q24 credit cost to 2.85% (the lowest since 3Q22) was brought by the government’s Bt10,000 cash handout, rising efficiency of its debt collection staff and a greater shift in loan mix toward secured loans. We cut our credit cost forecast by 15 bps to 2.85% (-21 bps) in 2025. We expect its asset quality to benefit from the government’s cash handout of Bt10,000 to the elderly and a deleveraging of household debt as a result of the “You Fight, We Help” measure. Debt collection continues good in January-February. It targets to keep NPL ratio below 2.7% in 2025 vs. 2.8% at YE2024.

Targets continued good loan growth in 2025. MTC plans to bump loan growth up to 15% in 2025 vs. 15% in 2024. We maintain our 2025F loan growth at 13%, the strongest in the sector. Despite having the largest loan base in the sector, MTC is expected to continue exhibiting the sector’s strongest loan growth, backed by the most extensive branch network (8,172 as of YE2024). It plans to add 600 branches in 2025 after adding 635 in 2024. It says loans continue to grow well YoY in January-February, despite it being low season.

Falling NIM from further rise in cost of funds. MTC expects its cost of funds to continue rising, but to no higher than 4.6% (which is the interest on the latest bond issuance with 7-year maturity) in 1H25 from 4.42% in 4Q24 and 4.21% in 2024. This arises out of rolling over debentures at a higher cost with longer maturity. It wants to extend liability duration to secure liquidity, despite a mismatch with asset duration. We raise our 2025F cost of funds by 10 bps to 4.5% (+19 bps), factoring in a 50 bps cut in the policy rate in 2025. We expect NIM to fall 17 bps in 2025.
Expect good earnings growth in 2025. We maintain our forecast of solid 17% earnings growth in 2025, with decent loan growth of 13%, a 17 bps narrowing in NIM and a 21 bps fall in credit cost. Our cut in our credit cost forecast is offset by an upward revision in cost of funds.

Maintain Outperform with an unchanged TP. We maintain our Outperform with an unchanged TP of Bt53 (based on 2.6x PBV), grounded in the 17% earnings growth in 2025, backed by good loan growth and a gradual ease in credit cost.

Risks. 1) Asset quality risk from an uneven and slower-than-expected economic recovery, 2) credit cost risk from falling used car prices, 3) rising competition from banks, 4) regulatory risk and 5) ESG risk from market conduct.
