The 2Q25 net loss was Bt521mn, easing both YoY and QoQ, though still worse than expected due to inventory loss of Bt779mn. Adjusted net profit was Bt595mn, turning around from a Bt975mn loss in 1Q25 on operational normalization, especially in the CPET segment, and strategic cost controls. Without the huge asset impairments, the 1H25 net loss was Bt1.8bn, sharply better than the Bt21.9bn loss in 1H24 but still steeper than expected. We expect earnings to improve in 2H25 but slash our 2025F net profit by 58% to Bt4.1bn. We stay NEUTRAL with a TP (mid-2026) of Bt23, based on 1x PBV.
Driven by CPET&IC1/. Adjusted EBITDA for CPET and intermediate chemicals (51% of adjusted EBITDA in 1H25), grew 52% QoQ on volume normalization after turnarounds in 1Q25 and on lower energy costs, but fell 7% YoY due to normalization of MTBE margins, a weaker EO/EG market and higher energy prices. Adjusted EBITDA/t rose 1% YoY and 46% QoQ to US$75/t on a volume effect and improved product spread. The segment’s utilization inched up to 82% from 80% in 1Q25 but remained below normal level of 85-86%.
Surfactant profit hit by weaker margin for essential segment. Adjusted EBITDA for the surfactant segment under Indovinya, accounting for 26% of total adjusted EBITDA in 1H25, fell 24% YoY and 16% QoQ on a planned maintenance shutdown, plus tariff volatility and higher feedstock cost (PKO) which cost it US$10mn. EBITDA margin weakened to 13% from 14% in 1Q25 due to a negative margin for essential products, offsetting the stable 17% margin for high value-added products (81% of revenue). Adjusted EBITDA/t weakened 18% YoY and 9% QoQ to US$253, though still far above IVL’s average adjusted EBITDA/t of US$98.
Stable quarter for fiber. Adjusted EBITDA for the fiber segment improved 19% YoY, supported by PSF market recovery and cost optimization, but was flat QoQ. The mobility segment supplied the bulk of its earnings (+49% QoQ) but was offset by lower profit for the hygiene segment (-27% QoQ), especially in Europe amid recent disruptions due to tariffs and lower consumer demand. Cost savings efforts in the fiber segment brought adjusted EBITDA/t to US$110 (+15% YoY, flat QoQ).
3Q25 profit to improve QoQ after plants resume normal operations. We expect stronger profit in 3Q25 after most of IVL’s plants resume normal production. It will also realize full-quarter earnings contribution from EPL (24.9% interest) after completing the acquisition in May. This is expected to boost Indovida earnings (packaging segment). Management expects more cost savings in 2H25 of US$70-80mn to achieve the full-year target of US$130-150mn.
2025F revised down, maintain NEUTRAL. We slash our 2025F by 58% after the 1H25 net loss of Bt1.8bn. We keep our TP at Bt23 based on 1x PBV, -1.5SD of 5-year average. This implies 6x EV/EBITDA (2026F), -0.8SD reflecting the uncertain outlook of the petrochemical industry amidst the trade war.
Risk factors: 1) Weaker demand, 2) less efficiency improvement at new assets than expected and 3) changes in regulations on plastic products. Key ESG risk factors include the environmental impact of its business and how it adapts during the transition to clean energy and a circular economy.
