3Q25: Earnings beat on better SPP margin
GPSC reported a 3Q25 net profit of Bt1.7bn, lining up with consensus but better than INVX estimate from a better SPP margin. Core earnings decreased 5.9% YoY and 43.7% QoQ due to a decline in equity income, primarily a huge loss from the CFXD project. 4Q25 is expected to be flat QoQ and YoY, as lower Ft will be offset by lower expected gas cost. GPSC is considering entering the data center business in in Thailand and India. We are maintaining our Neutral rating, with a mid-2026 DCF-based TP of Bt43.5, based on a WACC of 6.3% and long-term growth of 0.5%
3Q25 core earnings beat on higher SPP margin than expected. GPSC announced a net profit of Bt1.74bn in 3Q25, in line with consensus but 16% above INVX as SPP margin was better than we expected. Net profit surged 126% YoY but fell 13.7% QoQ. Extra items in the quarter included gain on the sale of a 3.03% stake in AEPL of Bt745mn (after tax), FX loss of Bt453mn and gain from hedging of Bt444mn. Core earnings in 3Q25 came in at Bt967mn, down 5.9% YoY and 43.7% QoQ due to lower equity income, especially from CFXD, which reported a loss of Bt921mn. This was a FX loss brought by the appreciation of the Taiwan dollar against the baht. Additionally, the capacity factor for the CFXD wind project sank to 11%, below breakeven of 40%. Avaada Energy also returned to a loss of Bt107mn in 3Q25. However, there was a positive offset from the Xayaburi hydropower, plant which reported a profit of Bt530mn in 3Q25 (2Q25: Bt112mn, 3Q24: Bt109mn) due to a relatively high volume of water flowing into the dam, and an increase in IPP margin (IPP gross margin 3Q25: 23%, 2Q25: 19%, 3Q24: 32%) as the GHECO-One power plant saw an increased fuel cost differential. SPP margin also improved (SPP gross margin 3Q25: 27%, 2Q25: 23%, 3Q24: 23%) as natural gas cost fell more than Ft plus an increase in sales volume of electricity and steam to IU customers.
9M25 core profit at 76% of our full-year core profit estimate. We expect 4Q25 core earnings to be flat QoQ and YoY. Although gas cost remains low, GPSC will realize the full quarter impact of the reduced Ft in 4Q25.
To focus more on data center investment. GPSC’s management is exploring potential JVs in the data center business in both Thailand and India. This will be across two to three areas, including supplying electricity to data center customers and managing the cooling system business (in collaboration with Keppel) as well as co-investing with hyperscale colocation data centers (with a capacity of no less than 100MW), with a focus on the EEC area. It may also consider expanding its investment in data centers in India with a capacity of 30-50MW for the first phase (with a goal to expand to 200-300MW). It will have local IT and tech experts as partners there and create synergy with Avaada Energy's high-capacity expansion, especially in green electricity.
Action and recommendation. We maintain our Neutral rating on GPSC. We expect to see flat core earnings QoQ in 4Q25 due to a lower Ft rate but this will be partially offset by potentially lower gas cost. Our mid-2026 TP of Bt43.5 is based on a DCF valuation (WACC: 6.3%, and LT growth: 0.5%).
Risks. Higher than expected fuel cost, delays in Ft adjustment, lower return on new investments and regulatory changes regarding GHG emissions. Key ESG risk is the environmental impact from its exposure to fossil fuels.
