1Q25F core profit is estimated at Bt6.7bn, +12% YoY from better sales and gross margin at CVS and CPAXT but -3% QoQ as lower earnings at CPAXT outpaced better CVS operations. We trim earnings by 2% in each of 2025 and 2026, factoring in a cut in CPAXT earnings (lower SSS and more conservative synergy assumption). We expect CPALL’s 2Q25F earnings to grow YoY on better sales and margin at both CVS and CPAXT, with more synergy from CPAXT post amalgamation; we also expect growth QoQ on seasonality. CPALL is now trading at 15x 25PE (sector’s lowest), against 2025F growth of 15% YoY (sector’s best). We maintain Outperform with a new end-2025 DCF TP (WACC 7%, LT growth 2%) of Bt67 (from Bt70).
Expect 1Q25F net profit of Bt6.7bn, +7% YoY but -6% QoQ. Without extra items (FX gain of Bt298 in 1Q24, Bt269mn in 4Q24), core profit will be Bt6.7bn, +12% YoY on better sales and gross margin at CVS and contribution from CPAXT (+9% YoY) but -3% QoQ, with lower contribution from CPAXT (-33% QoQ) offsetting a better CVS.
1Q25F CVS highlights. In 1Q25F, CVS sales are expected to grow 8% YoY on SSS growth and store expansion. SSS growth is estimated at 3% YoY (excluding leap day effect, similar to CPALL’s report) or 2% (including leap day, similar to other players’ report), above sector average, driven by more international and local tourists, strong sales during Chinese New Year and other long holidays, and higher temperatures bringing more sales in March. By product, sales were led by more ready-to-eat and drink (RTE, RTD) sales, i.e., meal boxes, Korean and Japanese meals and premium brand Thai meals, desserts, sandwiches, salad, fruit and All Café. By store type, sales were strongest in tourist areas and entertainment venues and weakest in stores located in gas stations. We expect it to open 170 new stores in Thailand, giving it 15,415 stores at end-1Q25 (+5% YoY and +1% QoQ). Gross margin on product mix is set to widen to 27.8% (+40bps YoY, +10% QoQ), on more high-margin RTE and personal care sales and lower low-margin cigarette sales. SG&A/sales will grow slightly, with higher employee expenses from payroll adjustment with a higher minimum wage amid better control on electricity and marketing expenses.
1Q25F CPAXT highlights (60% held by CPALL). In 1Q25F, we estimate CPAXT core profit at Bt2.7bn, +9% YoY from slightly better sales (SSS growth at 0.3% YoY in the B2B unit and 0.2% YoY in the B2C unit with store expansion) and wider gross margin (from more favorable sales mix at B2B) amid stable SG&A/sales (lower expenses at B2C balancing higher expense at B2B), but -33% QoQ from seasonality.
Earnings revision. We trim earnings by 2% in each of 2025 and 2026, factoring in our cut in CPAXT earnings on lower SSS and more conservative assumption on synergy. Though synergy post amalgamation has not yet kicked in in 1Q25F for CPAXT, we expect more to come for the rest of 2025F from gross margin improvement (CPAXT signed 40% of its target new trade term contracts with suppliers by end-1Q25) and back-office cost savings. We keep our CPAXT synergy assumption unchanged at Bt2.6bn in 2025-27F (vs its Bt5.2bn target in 2025-26F): Bt800mn in 2025F (vs Bt1bn earlier) and Bt1.8bn in 2026-27F (vs Bt1.6bn earlier). We have not yet included the upside from an interest rate cut: Each 25bps rate cut will raise its earnings by 0.7%.
Key risks are changes in government policies and purchasing power. Key ESG risks are energy & waste management, sustainable products (E) and product quality management, labor practices and data privacy (S).
