Preview 1Q25: Core soft, but recovering
We expect BCH to report a core profit of Bt323mn in 1Q25, down 1% YoY and 9% QoQ, slightly lower than our earlier estimate of small YoY and QoQ growth due to slow IPD services and rising depreciation expense. However, we do expect IPD revenue to resume the YoY growth uptrend in 2Q25, as the impact of the absence of Kuwaiti patients fades, Thai patients grow and it enters into a new market, Maldives, with patients starting to come in April. We continue to expect BCH to turn around with 15% growth in 2025. BCH is our lead pick in its sector. Outperform with an end-2025 DCF TP of Bt20/share.
Preview 1Q25: Low core profit. We estimate 1Q25 core profit at Bt323mn, down 1% YoY and 9% QoQ, below our previous expectation of small YoY and QoQ growth due to slow IPD services and rising depreciation expense. Including extra items in 1Q24 and 4Q24, i.e. revenue write-off for COVID-19 and SC services, net profit in 1Q25 will grow 1% YoY and jump 38% QoQ.
Slow revenue growth from slow IPD services. We estimate revenue at Bt2.9bn, up 3% YoY and 6% QoQ. By service, we expect OPD revenue (37% of revenue) to grow 6% YoY (but drop 3% QoQ), reflecting facility improvements and additional services. We expect SC revenue (34% of revenue) to grow 3% YoY on more insured persons and 17% QoQ off the low base in 4Q24 due to write-off of revenue related to high-cost care (AdjRW>2). We expect IPD revenue (29% of revenue) to drop 2% YoY (and 2% QoQ), dragged down by lower revenue from Kuwaiti patients (downtrend started in mid-1Q24), which the growth in Thai patients is not able to entirely offset. We expect EBITDA margin at 24.7% in 1Q25, up slightly from 24.2% in 1Q24 and better than the low EBITDA margin of 22% in 4Q24 brought by the SC revenue write-off. Facility improvements will increase depreciation expense by 10% YoY; this will be flat QoQ.
Continue to expect earnings to turn around. We expect IPD revenue to resume YoY growth in 2Q25 after heading down for five quarters as the hiccup in Kuwaiti patients fades plus more Thai patients and entry into a new market, Maldives, with patients beginning to come in April. We expect limited impact from some postponements of Myanmar patients (3% of revenue) due to the earthquake. In 2Q25, we expect core profit to grow YoY and QoQ. We maintain our positive view on a turnaround with 15% growth to Bt1.7bn core profit in 2025. Our end-2025 DCF TP is Bt20/share, based on WACC at 7.3% and long-term growth at 3%.
Lead pick. Over the past month, BCH’s share price has increased by 6%, outperforming the SET’s drop of 0.4%. We see its valuation as undemanding, trading at 22x 2025 PE, nearly -2SD of its 10-year historical average. BCH is our lead pick in the healthcare service sector.
Risks. Change in SC reimbursement, slower patient traffic and cost burden at new facilities. We see ESG risk as patient safety (S): BCH has adopted a variety of quality assurance systems to provide continuous patient care.
